Juniper Green Energy opens on 30 July 2026 with a Rs 1,800 crore issue - the largest opening this week and one of the bigger renewable-energy offerings of the year.

It is also, at the time of writing, an issue with no grey market premium being quoted. On a site built around GMP that is worth addressing directly rather than skipping.

The lot size had not been published when this was written. SEBI fixes the minimum retail application for a mainboard issue between roughly Rs 14,000 and Rs 15,000, so at the Rs 225 upper band the lot will land at around 64 to 66 shares - we will confirm the exact figure here once the prospectus does.

Why no GMP is not a red flag here

A missing grey market premium on a large issue days before it opens usually means one thing: the dealers have not started quoting it in size yet. It is not the same as a negative premium, and for an issue this size it is normal.

  • Big issues price on the book, not the buzz. A Rs 1,800 crore offering has to place a lot of stock with institutions. The signal that matters is the anchor book the day before opening and the QIB subscription on the final day - not an early grey market quote.
  • The scarcity that drives GMP is weaker at scale. With that many shares to go around, the supply squeeze that pushes a small issue to a 60 percent premium simply is not present. A large issue carrying little or no premium is ordinary, not a warning.
  • A premium may appear once bidding starts. GMP for large issues often only firms up once the anchor allotment and day-one subscription are known.
On a big renewable-energy issue, the absence of a grey market quote tells you almost nothing about the company. It tells you the grey market has not priced it yet. Judge this one on the prospectus - our guide to what GMP actually is explains why the number matters least exactly when an issue is this large.

What actually matters for an issue this size

For a Rs 1,800 crore renewable-energy issue, the questions worth answering are in the prospectus, not the grey market:

  • How much of the issue is fresh capital for the business versus an offer for sale by existing holders.
  • The operating capacity already generating revenue against capacity still under construction.
  • Debt levels - renewable-energy generation is capital-intensive and usually carries significant borrowing.
  • The valuation relative to listed renewable-energy and power peers.

An issue of this scale is generally driven by institutional demand, so the QIB subscription figure on the final day will say far more about how it is being received than any grey market number.

The dates that actually decide things

Bidding closes on 3 August. For mainboard issues the UPI mandate cut-off is 17:00 IST on the closing day - approve the mandate when you apply, not on the last afternoon, because a lapsed mandate is one of the most common reasons an application quietly fails.

Basis of allotment is 4 August, with KFin Technologies as registrar, and listing follows on 6 August on both NSE and BSE. If you are not allotted, the block on your funds is released rather than debited - the full mechanics are in our guide to how IPO allotment works.

The honest summary

Juniper Green Energy is the largest issue opening this week, and the lack of a grey market premium is a feature of its size, not a mark against it. The number to watch is the institutional book once bidding opens, not an early GMP quote.

Read the prospectus - the capital mix, the operating capacity, the debt, and the valuation against peers. On an issue this large, that is where the answer is, and the grey market is the last place to look for it.

Nothing here is investment advice. Grey market premium is an unofficial indicator and we are not SEBI-registered analysts. Figures are as published at the time of writing and can change - the lot size and final terms are confirmed in the red herring prospectus.
